About us

We take care of the details. You bring your appetite.

Hobart Food Tour is the flagship Daves tour in Hobart — a small-group walking food tour of Salamanca, Battery Point and the Hobart waterfront. Our Hobart crew opened in 2014 with the food tour and a handful of producers we knew. A handful of sister Hobart tours are rolling out behind it.

About the Hobart Food Tour

We take care of the details.
You bring your appetite.

Eighteen years ago, Daves was one Dave running a single pub tour through Sydney's Rocks because the official ones missed all the good stuff. The Hobart crew opened in 2014 with the same idea — a small group, a local Dave, and the baker / fishmonger / chocolatier / ice cream maker doing the talking themselves.

We keep groups small so you can actually meet the makers, see what's coming out of the oven that morning, and ask whatever you want. The food tour is the flagship — five-plus stops between Salamanca and Victoria Dock — with a handful of sister Hobart tours rolling out and the same booking-fee policy (zero) across the network. We are all Dave. Daves is all of us.

Our format

Every Daves tour, in every region, follows the same template. A small group (we keep numbers low so you can actually meet the makers, see what's coming off the boat or out of the oven, and ask whatever you want). A local guide. Behind-the-counter access at every stop, not a window into the kitchen. And no booking fees — ever, on any tour, in any region.

Who runs it

Daves started eighteen years ago as a single Dave running a single pub tour through Sydney's Rocks. The Hobart crew opened in 2014. The team is a small bench of guides — all locals, all Dave. We don't put a single name on the door because the company isn't a person, it's the format: small group, local Dave, makers doing the talking.

We are all Dave. Daves is all of us.

What we don't do

  • Bus tours with megaphones.
  • Group sizes above 12 on a public tour.
  • Booking fees, ever.
  • Pickups from cruise ships or coach parks (we'll meet you in Salamanca for the public food tour).
  • Generic "Tasmanian food experience" packages we sell to wholesalers.
  • Dynamic pricing — Saturday is the same price as Wednesday.

What we do do, well

  • Behind-the-counter access at every food stop.
  • Tastings plated for our group, not pulled off the public counter.
  • Pre-tour planning calls for every private group enquiry.
  • Kid-friendly versions of the food tour at half price under 12.
  • Two business-day turnaround on dietary requirements where the producer can accommodate.

The accreditations

We're a member of the Tourism Industry Council TAS and carry A$20m public liability and professional indemnity cover. We don't sell food ourselves — every bite on every tour is served by the licensed producer we're visiting. We sell directly through this site and through our partner network (GetYourGuide, Klook, Viator) for international guests.
